Fishing

The Chaliyar River is being situated on the east-north sides of vazhakkad. The wards 1,2,3,4,5,6,,8,9 of the panchayath are situated on these sides of the river. Hence the life of the fishermen depends on this.

A period ago, after the setting up of Gwalior rayon’s, fishing couldn’t be done due to the water pollution. Now days most of the people from the regions of Mapram, Vettathur and Aakod is still depending on fishing to live.

Problems

1.	No source for getting tools and equipments needed for fishing.

2.	Less encouragement

3.	Polluted water due to industrialization

4.	Becoming an obstacle for the education of children living in these areas.

Remedies

1.	Arrangement of enough equipment needed for fishing.

2.	Avoid water pollution

3.	Expansion of national fisheries union.

4.	Arrange subsidiaries, stipend, scholarships etc. for the children of that area.

5.	Establish fisheries department office in each block and center.

6.	Provide training facilities for scientific fishing for 10 people in each ward.

7.	Give insurance for the house and equipments of the fishermen

8.	Provide a hand to help the needed both financially and non-financially for setting up the scientific way of fishing.
